Our proudest moment

Updated: Mar 21, 2019

We started working with Joe through an apprenticeship scheme organised by Manchester City Council in 2014. Hear it from Joe in his own words below.

'My name is Joseph Lowry, and I would like to tell you how I became one of the key members of the BMS team.

I have worked as an electrician all my working life, but unfortunately this never really progressed further or challenged me so I opted for a change of career. I enrolled on a Construction Management, Level 4 trainee scheme, which was a bespoke programme designed by the Manchester Council. The programme was operated by five leading construction related companies who employed candidates on a rotation scheme. This allowed me exposure to Architecture, Project Management, Mechanical & Electrical engineering, Surveying and Contract Management activities.

I was primarily employed by Laing O’Rourke with Andrew Schilling as my line manager and mentor. At the time he was working as a Project Leader of the Manchester Town Hall project. Through his guidance and belief in me, I managed to gain fulfilment from my career.

After the traineeship, Andrew offered me an opportunity to join him in his new business endeavour, working as a trainee BMS Engineer. I was offered a good salary and now have a company car. Through the expert guidance of the BMS Consulting team, I become skilled in my trade and even helped with the consulting side of the business on the Astra Zeneca project in Cambridge.

I could not possibly have had a better start into the BMS industry, and I am now one of the leading engineers on a Jaguar Land rover project in Gaydon with five Commissioning Engineers under my supervision.

In summary, I have found my career calling through BMS Consulting and now am a share holder in our new venture, BMS Contracting. This opportunity gives me the change to contribute to the growth of what we believe will be an industry leading business, with possibilities of international contracts already in the pipeline.

I am very grateful for my opportunity and aim to achieve much higher then I ever dreamed possible. BMS Consulting is not like anywhere else I have worked, I feel valued and rewarded, I am learning every day.

My aim now is to help to grow the business and to encourage other young people to achieve their potential. We have just signed up a partnership supporting the Greater Manchester Youth Network which will allow me to help influce others. #GMYN #YoungPeopleCan
